Closure Design Engineer, Deep Orange 11

Developing a sustainability-focused concept vehicle that is ultra-efficient, lightweight, highly durable mobility solution for the year 2035 and beyond.

​

  • Designed, analyzed, and fabricated automatic opening doors with 6061 Aluminum frame, DMLS 3D printed steel  hinges and assembled them with 3D printed interior and thermoformed exterior panel

​

  • Optimized door frame design for door Sag, door Sash, door frame stiffness and beltline stiffness using HyperWorks

​

  • Vacuum infused the battery tub with recycled carbon fiber using flame retardant epoxy resin

​

  • Designed and vacuum infused a 12 kg CFRP roof frame panel for accommodating polycarbonate panoramic moonroof

​

  • Conducted DFM and DFA for 3D printed Glass fiber reinforced polypropylene interior panels  

​

  • Validated the CFRP tube and 3D printed steel nodes vehicle frame build by comparing 3D Scanned data with CAD

​

  • Built the 1:1 scale buck to implement compact and versatile packaging layouts for shared and wheelchair mobility

• Assisted in set up lab for different data acquisition systems like Muller-BBM, SoMat   EDAQ and MeCalc MicroQ


• Setting up of Honda Civic 2016 body in white for experimental assessment of   bending  stiffness, torsional stiffness and modal analysis for frequency response


• Compared the simulation and test mode shapes for Honda Civic using Siemens   TestLab and Altair Hyperworks

(Manufacturing of Vacuum Infused Carbon fiber door for Acura MDX)


• Worked under Dr. Srikant Pilla to manufacture a carbon fiber door prototype for Acura MDX


• Preparation of wooden negative mold, lay up of twill and unidirectional carbon fiber, vacuum infusion, cutting, 3D printing door components for geometric evaluation and validation of form, fit and function on Acura MDX


• Achieved overall weight savings of 11.3 kg from the base weight of 31.8 kg while having 9 fewer parts

• Validated occupant protection standards by setting up and performing following tests:

     o Safety Belt Anchorages Test (ECE R14, IS 13749)
     o Interior Fittings Test (ECE R12 /Is 11939; ECE R17; ECE R21 /Is 15223, ECE R25)
